The ban on Airbus deliveries to Russia will have a negative impact on the European market of used airliners, said Roman Gusarov, editor-in-chief of Avia.ru portal.
On Saturday night the authorities of the European Union announced new sanctions that include a ban on supplies of Airbus planes, spare parts and equipment to Russian airlines. Today, according to media reports, Russian carriers have 322 Airbus planes in their fleets, accounting for nearly half (40 percent) of aviation passenger traffic in Russia.
"Now in the pandemic there is already a surplus of aircraft, and then there will be a bunch of lessors who have almost new planes which are rusty and do not bring them money, only losses, and it is necessary to cram it somewhere cheaper. This also brings down the sales of new aircraft, Boeing and Airbus," - BFM.ru quotes Gusarov.
The companies, the expert explained, do not consider it reasonable to buy a new aircraft at high cost, when there is an opportunity to buy a similar aircraft at a bargain price in the secondary market.
According to Gusarov, the solution of the problem with the shortage of aircraft in Russia due to new restrictions may be the attraction of airlines from Kazakhstan, Belarus and China. The expert reckons this will give an opportunity to solve the problem of air traffic during the transition period.
In addition, the aircraft may change ownership, for example, from European to Asian, he says. In this case it will be possible to avoid aircraft recall, thinks Gusarov.
