Sri Lanka plans to purchase fertilizers, urea, phosphate and potash from Russia by early summer 2022, said Sri Lanka's ambassador to Russia, Professor Janita Abeyvikrema Liyanage.
"There are many different fertilizers in Russia that Sri Lanka needs a lot. These are urea and potassium and phosphates. We are now negotiating with several companies at the same time for urgent supplies of fertilizers to Sri Lanka. We are considering large shipments so that we have enough for a year. We need a large amount of fertilizer already in June. We hope we'll get it in May," she was quoted as saying by TASS.
The ambassador noted that at the moment Russia supplies coal to Sri Lanka, but the authorities want to expand the supply of energy resources, we are talking about crude oil and gas.
