The short animated film "Boxing Ballet" by Russian director Anton Dyakov was short-listed for an Oscar, according to the website of the organization.
The plot of "The Boxing Ballet" is a love story of a ballerina and a boxer. The cartoon reveals the contrast between the rough exterior and the unobviously sensual interior, "the contrast of form and content, the power of the influence of the one on the other and the possibility of such influence in general," noted in the description of the work. It lasts 15 minutes.
The cartoon has already won several prestigious awards and was named Best Animated Short at the Shorter Festival and won the Icarus Award.
There are a total of 15 films on the shortlist. The final list of nominees will be known February 8. The Oscar ceremony is scheduled for March 27.
