In eastern Serbia, an exhibition called Bela Mati opened in the city of Bela Crkva, marking the 100th anniversary of the arrival in the republic of Russian emigrants forced to leave Russia after the revolution, the press service of the Russian Embassy in Serbia reported.
"Serbia is a great friend and brotherly country for Russia, the most reliable ally in Europe, and the two countries help each other and create a lot of trust and friendship," Russian Ambassador Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko said at the opening.
The exhibition takes place in the city museum of Bela-Crkva. It features exhibits from the museum's collection related to the Russian emigration and telling about the Russian heritage in the local environment.
Recall that after the revolution and civil war, more than 40 thousand emigrants from Russia were sent to the Republic. Among the refugees were students of several cadet corps, as well as pupils of the Mariinsky Don Institute for Noble Maidens. The educational institutions were accommodated in Bela-Tsarkva.
