A monument to Fyodor Dostoyevsky was erected in Florence

A monument to the Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky was installed in the city park of Cascina in Florence, TASS reports.

It is a bronze sculpture more than three meters high. The figure of the writer stands on a pedestal with crossed arms on his chest, one of which the author holds his novel "The Idiot. At his feet lie open shackles.

According to the Russian Ambassador to Italy, the choice of location for the monument is not accidental. The writer lived in Florence in August 1862, and from December 1868 to August 1869. It was here that he completed one of his most famous novels, The Idiot, in 1862.

Representatives of the Russian embassy, Florence Mayor Dario Nardella, Tuscan Governor Eugenio Giani and Russian presidential adviser Vladimir Tolstoy attended the monument's opening ceremony.

"Installing a monument to Dostoyevsky is a beautiful, important and necessary gesture, showing that great culture remains timeless," Tolstoy said.

The author of the bronze monument was the Russian sculptor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Aidyn Zeynalov.
