Russian Post's unmanned delivery service to be tested in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District

Unmanned cargo and mail delivery will be tested in remote and hard-to-reach areas of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District (YNAO). Such an agreement was signed at the International Aviation and Space Salon (MAKS-2021) by Deputy Governor of YNAO Arkady Bessonov, Deputy Director General of Russian Post for Logistics Igor Chebunin and Director General of Aeromax Sergey Akhmetshin.

"The parties will develop postal and logistics services in the YNAO together and work on the launch of unmanned aerial delivery of mail cargo. By the end of 2021, the companies plan to conduct the first experimental flights of drones for mail delivery in YNAO," Aeromax's press service said.

For the tests, the company will use an unmanned aerial system (UAS) on the basis of an unmanned aircraft of the helicopter type BVS-VT. The aircraft will be able to deliver cargo weighing up to 100 kilograms.

"Within the framework of the project Aeromax will create an unmanned aerial system, the characteristics of which correspond as much as possible to the partners' needs in solving the tasks of cargo transportation. On the basis of the existing experience and due to the close cooperation with the Russian Post we will be able to improve the transport infrastructure of the region and to establish constant communication with remote and hard-to-reach areas of the YNAO," - says the general director of the company Sergei Akhmetshin.

The implementation of the "Unmanned Aerial Freight Delivery" project will improve the quality of logistics services and reduce the cost of mail and cargo delivery to hard-to-reach settlements of Yamal, and, consequently, improve the quality of life of the population, said the governor of the region, Arkady Bessonov.
