Russian logistics company AMTEK, which provides international freight transportation, has organized the first direct rail route from Tongliao (China) to Murmansk (Russia) for a fast container train carrying drilling equipment for Rosneft, which is building a seaport in Murmansk as part of the creation of a special economic zone. The new route has already competed with existing sea lines.
"An express train with 53 forty-foot containers loaded with drilling rods, sodium glutamate and special equipment for the construction of oil rigs with a total weight of 1.4 thousand tons left the city of Tongliao in China's Inner Mongolia province on March 5, 2020. The container service operator is the Russian company AMTEK and the consignee is OAO Rosneft. Containers for transportation were provided by PJSC TransContainer," said the representative of AMTEK.
As General Director of "AMTEK" Armen Minasyan specified, the first train went through the border crossing Manchuria (China) - Zabaikalsk (Russia) on the route Tianjin - Tunliao - Manchuria - Zabaikalsk - Murmansk which length is 9,2 thousand km, the train has overcome for 12 days. At the same time, it would have taken 40 days to ship cargo by sea via St. Petersburg ports. At the same time, due to railway transportation subsidizing by the Chinese government the cost of such shipments is almost identical to the sea ones. Thus, the price of shipments to Murmansk by rail is about $4,000, and by sea - from $4,000 to $4,500.
He added that if spare parts from China continue to be shipped, AMTEK will increase the regularity of trains. As the service does not provide for return shipment from Murmansk, the empty containers will be relocated to Moscow and St. Petersburg.
