New Biomedical Solutions (NOBR), a developer and manufacturer of modern hemostatic products based on biopolymers, successfully tested its ELLARGA hemostatic bandage at the Moscow Fire and Rescue Squad in 2019.
"To the Emergency Rescue Squad No. 9 of the Main Control Department of the "Fire and Rescue Center" of Moscow (ASO No. 9 GKU "PSS") for testing and use in the work were provided hemostatic means "ELLARGA" - Bandage 7,5x150 cm and powder 15 g," - told the representative of the company.
Within the framework of testing, 7.5x150 cm bandage ELLARGA was applied to two injured people with deep hand cuts at the scene of a road traffic accident. The wound was densely tamponized with the NOBR product. Hemostasis occurred within less than one minute, after which the injured person was provided with a tight bandage using gauze without removing the ELLARGA bandage, and then the injured person was transported to the ambulance.
Also during the exercise, an ELLARGA bandage of the same size was used in case of venous bleeding in a victim in a traffic accident. The product was applied for wound tamponization, hemostasis occurred within 1 minute, after that, bandage was also applied for dressing the injured area with gauze bandage without pulling out the bandage.
"Usually during rescue operations by ASO No. 9 of the SCU "PCC" for first aid in this kind of injuries are used "Activtex" wipes. It should be noted that hemostatic agent "ELLARGA" surpasses the above remedy in ease of use, sterility, compactness of packaging, as well as in effectiveness of exposure, "- said the company.
In addition, during the event the ELLARGA powder was also tested and used to stop bleeding. After treating a moderately bleeding wound, hemostasis occurs within the first 15 seconds. "At the moment, there is no drug in the squad rescuers' first-aid stowage that is a complete analogue of this hemostatic powder," the company explained.
According to the results of testing, both ELLARGA products demonstrated ease of use and effectiveness in application, and were recommended for use in first aid by emergency services.
"As a result, the hemostatic agent ELLARGA was equipped with a motorcycle group of the Moscow City Fire and Rescue Center," concluded the company's representative.

ABOUT NOBR
Founded in 2012, NOBR develops, manufactures and sells state-of-the-art biopolymer-based hemostatic products. The company was founded based on a project that originated from the Formula Bio program of the Lomonosov Moscow State University Science Park. The company was supported by the NORB Innovation Support Foundation, the Zelenograd Nanotechnology Center and the Russian Ministry of Industry.
Products
The key product of the project is ELLARGA haemostatic agents that are an innovative development of young Russian scientists. These agents can stop external, including arterial, potentially fatal bleeding in two minutes. The styptic effect is achieved due to local concentration of blood components and binding of chitosan molecules to negatively charged erythrocytes.
"Ellarga consists of up to 75% of chitosan, a substance found in the shell of crustaceans such as shrimps. On contact with blood, chitosan turns into a gel and prevents blood from leaking. This natural polymer has long been used in medicine. It is hypoallergenic, has natural antibacterial properties and is biodegradable - self-absorbable medical devices are made of chitosan fibers.
At the same time the use of this product does not require medical skills, so the drug can be used to provide first aid and emergency care for bleeding wounds and vessel damage, as well as in the hospital setting to stop bleeding when traditional methods of hemostasis are ineffective.
