Aquilon has developed a detector for liquid chromatography

Akvilon, a developer of advanced analytical instruments, released a detector for liquid chromatography DAD-101 intended for use in laboratories as a UV-VIS PDA detector (detector on the line of photodiodes) in liquid chromatography systems.

DAD-101 detector

The detector measures real-time changes in light absorption in liquids passing through the cell in the range from 200 to 800 nm (600 nm, depending on the device version), at 8 selected wavelengths and 2 additional mathematical channels. A deuterium lamp in combination with a tungsten lamp is used as a light source.

DAD-101 detector control, data acquisition and processing are performed using specialized software "Multichrome Aquilon Stayer".

Integration of the device into the chromatographic system allows to see in three-dimensional mode the absorption spectra of substances in the whole wavelength range of the detector, not only at one wavelength, as in the simplest spectrophotometric detector. This approach, in turn, assists in the precise identification of substances in a chromatogram by their absorption spectra, especially if an identification and automatic spectra recognition unit is included in the software package.

The DAD-101 has a number of advantages over standard fast-scanning spectrophotometers:

• simultaneous registration at all wavelengths without loss of time for mechanical switching;
• Constant level of absorption signal noise, independent of the number of registration wavelengths;
• spectral resolution of 4-5 nm surpassing absolute majority of devices with mechanical scanning.

Some features of the DAD-101:

• Combination of deuterium and halogen lamps provides high light intensity over the entire spectral range;
• An advanced, low-noise array of 512 photodiodes provides spectral resolution down to 5 nm;
• The modern design of the instrument, consisting of a few high-precision components, leads to high sensitivity and reproducibility of the results, as well as reduced time of the instrument stabilization after switching on.
