Star Smile has launched an on-site 3D intraoral scanning service

The Moscow company Star Smile, which works in the field of orthodontics, has launched a service for clinics and doctors where an employee of the company with an intraoral scanner can come out to perform 3D scanning of patients' teeth. For the time being, the service operates only in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

"Undoubtedly, intraoral scanner is the most promising and useful technique for 3D modeling of teeth in the present and near future, but it is also very expensive. In this regard, our company launched a new service in January 2019, which we call "On-site Scanning". Thanks to this service, all our clients - clinics and doctors - can call an employee of Star Smile with an intraoral scanner, who will come to your clinic by the appointed time and scan the patient," said Vladimir Lutsenko, the founder and head of the company.

He explained that the on-site scanning is free of charge if you order Star Smile orthopedic appliances.

The intra-oral 3D scanning not only increases the accuracy of the structure of eliners and speeds up their production, but also eliminates the possibility of errors in taking impressions. Besides, scanning can be made both for adults and children.

At the moment the service is available in Moscow and Saint Petersburg. Since the company operates in more than 70 Russian cities, there are plans to expand the geography of field scans in the future.

About intraoral scanning

Intraoral intraoral scanners appeared in the early 2000s and have replaced the classical impression-taking procedure. With the help of the device it is possible to scan the entire jaw of the patient and immediately get an online digital 3D model of the teeth. 3D scanning eliminates inaccuracies and errors in this procedure, which is essential in the production of eliners and crowns, and is also the most comfortable for the patient without causing a gag reflex, which is particularly common in children during the removal of casts.

Today, there are about 7-8 companies in the world producing intraoral scanners: CEREC of the German company Sirona, iTero of the American company Align Technology, the American company Carestream, the European company 3Shape with its TRIOS scanner and the i500 scanner of the Korean company Medit.

"Star Smile works with all of the above-mentioned manufacturers of intraoral intra-oral scanners, which can significantly reduce the time required to send the necessary files to create eliners for the client - each patient has a personal account and ID-scanner number, which Star Smile employees can use to find all the documents needed for work independently.

Star Smile Eliners

Star Smile Eliners is a system of bite correction with a set of individual transparent orthodontic braces based on a virtual simulation of tooth movement and 3D-technology. Currently it is one of the most advanced orthodontic technology.

The special feature is the gradual tooth repositioning by means of individual transparent orthodontic braces due to the resilience and shape memory of the plastic material the patient wears on his/her teeth.

Practically invisible when worn, they do not affect diction; the technology allows to move individual teeth in a row or simultaneously, unlike braces, which move a row of teeth with an arch, the effect on the dental rows is gradual and causes much less discomfort to the patient; the mouth-guard of orthodontics is removable, allowing better dental care, and with proper care, the patient's tooth enamel will not suffer. A computer simulation is also used in treatment planning so that the predicted treatment outcome can be assessed from "before treatment" to "after treatment" and the number of mouth guards can be calculated so that the treatment time can be estimated in advance.

The company manufactures eliners of imported certified hypoallergenic transparent material (plastic), which is little sensitive to ultraviolet light and biological oxidants, so they do not turn yellow and practically do not lose their transparency while they are on the patient's teeth, remaining invisible.

Eliners are suitable for both teenagers and adults. Eliners are most commonly used for such bite problems as fractures, diastemas and crowding. Eliners can be used not only to correct bites but also in preparation for other treatments. For instance, due to age or trauma, a patient may be missing some teeth that require an implant-retained restoration, but because the teeth have moved apart, closing the empty space, there is no full-fledged space for this. In this case, eliners can be used to prepare the patient for implantation.
