Karen Sarkisian has extensive experience in the development and application of molecular biology methods: he has created new methods related to deoxyribonucleic acid technologies and has also developed several fluorescent, including genetically encoded, tools for various applications.

Karen Sarkisian participated in describing the first genetically coded bioluminescent system of fungi. Under his guidance and on the basis of the discovered bioluminescence system, the world's first autonomously luminous plants were created.
