In 1985, he graduated from Daugavpils Higher Military Aviation Engineering School in Latvia, after which he served in the Air Force and retired with the rank of colonel.
Kanevsky was the Head of the Department of the Zhukovsky Air Force Engineering Academy in Moscow for over 10 years. His area of specialization is the design of integrated flight safety systems, including airfield and on-board equipment. He has written 120 scientific papers, 3 monographs and 38 international patents in the field of vortex flight safety technologies.
Mikhail Kanevsky is an official representative of the Russian Federation in the International Civil Aviation Organization's research group on vortex turbulence, as well as an active member of the European Organisation for Civil Aviation Equipment, Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics and Society of Automotive Engineers.
In addition, Kanevsky holds the position of Chairman of Procedural Code 26 Aeronautical Systems, National Technical Committee of ISO standard (TC 323 Aviation Equipment), as well as First Deputy Chairman of the Committee Aeronautics non-commercial partnership Union of Aviation Producers.
