Moscow and Minsk plan to sign an agreement on spent nuclear fuel by the end of the year

The authorities of Russia and Belarus intend to sign an intergovernmental agreement on the management of spent nuclear fuel by the end of this year. This was stated by the Minister of Energy of Belarus Viktor Karankevich at a meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly Commission on Energy and Transport.

According to him, the Belarusian side has prepared the necessary legislative framework, including the approval of the regulation on licensing activities in the field of the use of atomic energy and ionizing radiation sources. In addition, the law "On Safety Regulation in the Use of Atomic Energy" was adopted.

Recall that the construction of the Belarusian NPP is carried out according to the standard Russian project "NPP-2006". The station will consist of two power units with a capacity of 1,200 MW each. The general contractor is Atomstroyexport (part of Rosatom Corporation).
